Qype Review: Howell's Bar (Dearborn, MI)

The review below of Howell's Bar in Dearborn was originally written for Qype, a networking website where bar-hoppers around the world post reviews of their favorite and some least favorite places. It's not all about bars, but many of my reviews are. Here's my review of Howell's:

You know those bars on TV shows where everyone knows everybody else?
Howell’s is like that.
It’s a long-standing neighborhood bar, kind of a dive. You won’t find a dance floor and it certainly is not a big enough place for a pool table, although they have somehow managed to squeeze a dart board onto the wall.
Ask a regular about the food, and they will tell you it’s good, especially the fried chicken and the burgers. The food served here is American, burgers and typical fried bar food. Though I’ve also heard jumbalaya has been served on occassion.
Being a neighborhood bar, Howell’s patrons could be anyone from a bus boy to a lawyer, from age 21 on up. The atmosphere is friendly, and the bartenders are always willing and quick to serve. If you are from Dearborn, you will likely know at least one person there. If you are there alone, someone is likely to say hi or buy you a drink. It’s just that kind of local watering hole.
Howell’s is located on the corner of Mason and Village Drive in downtown West Dearborn, just off of Michigan Ave. It’s a great location, near the parking lot (which has unfortunately switched to a metered lot, so bring quarters for parking) and other great bars.
Most young people prefer to begin their evenings out at one of the other bars on the block like Bailey’s, Post Bar or Double Olive, but they often end their night at Howell’s for last call. As long as you order your drink before 2 a.m., you are good to go for a final night cap!
The drinks are consistently well-mixed and definitely the lowest priced of the downtown Dearborn bars.
This bar is worth a visit, if you are in the area. If nothing else, Howell’s should at least be your final stop for their last call specials.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!
